SimpleScript is a free screenwriting app built for industry-standard writing, with a clean, customizable interface and support for .fdx and .fountain import and export. I originally built SimpleScript for myself because I wanted the writing process to feel cleaner, faster, and more enjoyable. Too many industry-standard screenwriting apps felt outdated and full of friction. They handled basic things poorly, from dark mode to opening and saving projects, and kept getting in the way of the writing itself. SimpleScript was built to remove that friction. I needed a screenwriting app that feels clean, responsive, and pleasant to use, while still supporting the professional standards and file formats writers need. I made it free because writing stories with professional software should be accessible to everyone.
